Yes the Beedlles Acoustic Club has got off to a great start for 2007 Monday 8th with many great performances again .

Keith Turner enthralled everyone with his brilliant performance of “ Strawberry Fields Forever”.

John Aston played his newly written song and tribute to his late Father with a lot of Love and passion.

Lynn Goulbourn visited us for the first time and sang "A Hard Days Night" with her own arrangement that really worked well as a ballad and also sang Joni's "Big Yellow Taxi".

Dave and Dean did their own tribute to James Brown with a funky  "Papa's got a Brand New Bag" then sang a brilliant "Embrace" song.

Many thanks to Lee for singing that Jet song and helping me out with some maracas accompaniment on "Blue Bayou”.

The variety continued with Barry singing” Sloop John B" and Phil with "Under my Thumb”.

The evening finished off with Colin Perks with some Neil Young and Big Bill Broonzy Blues songs joined by Martin and John trading lead guitar breaks.

Just time for "One Trick Pony" with Julie singing "Wheels on Fire" and John doing a fine rendition of Jez Luton's song "Chasing Blues"

Hard to think of a better way to spend a Monday night on one of the most miserable nights of the year, weatherwise, than visit Beedles for a fiver and enjoy live music at it's best. See you next month. Malc

see also Normanton Acoustic Club every 2nd Tuesday of the month

It was a miserable February when I ventured to Beedles Acoustic Club with guitar for another unknown evening of entertainment. The thing is you never know what lies in store. For a seasoned player like myself to get in front of a mike in front of other musicians and sing a couple of songs is a daunting prospect. Maybe thats true but I cannot resist the challenge. You see that once you have been on the stage in a band or solo it gets in your blood. You see singers on prime time TV slots being ripped apart by Ozzie Osbourne’s missus and believe me its a lot easier at Beedles.

John Montague who runs the club provides all the equipment and all you need is a musical instrument and optional voice and you get lots of support from John.

So give it a try its only a fiver. Last night we were treated to many local musicians of fantastic quality. Mark Newman entertained us with some virtuoso guitar playing. Colin Perks played some Blues and country rock while some blossoming local talent gave us some new self written songs and Paulene song some Jazz and Blues from the heart.

The Club runs from the first Monday in the month with a break for the summer.

'Great venues for live music. My confidence in performing has developed immensely in the easy, and welcoming atmosphere. I like the variety and quality of music played and the superb guest performers'
--Colin Perks
This club provides the link between playing in your front room and 'Giving a performance'. The atmosphere is friendly, supportive and non-competitive, and it gives a player of any standard the encouragement to improve "This club helped to give me the confidence to 'Get up in front of people' after a gap of many years. John is very supportive and gives the encouragement needed to make the transition from bedroom or study to a performance. Great fun!"
--Mike Keogh.
